Taylor's Jewelry Store
History
A lot has changed in the last century. New forms of transportation,
communication and advances in the fields of science and medicine have changed
the landscape of our country and the way we live our lives. The Taylor's
storefront, however, has been around for them all. It's a rare feat for a
shop to be open long enough to see their 10th or 20th anniversary in today's
economy, but by serving the needs of their customers and keeping the store a
family tradition, Taylor's has not only survived, but thrived.
Taylor's Jewelry was founded in 1910 by George Taylor. In 1949 Julius and
Rosie Hess (Debbie's grandparents) purchased it. In 1959, Ted and Heddy
Hess took over the reigns and the business thrived while they raised a family of
4 children. The youngest daughter, Debbie, would join in the family
business and in 2005 became the third generation in her family to run Taylor's
Jewlery.
Taylor's has been in its current location since the mall opened in 1981.
For 22 years, both the downtown and the South Side Mall shops ran concurrently.
In 2003, the Williamson location was closed to focus solely on the store in the
mall.
Debbie is extremely grateful for the success of her family and Taylor's Jewelry.
"One hundred years is a long time to be in business and we're very thankful to
all of our customer and we look forward to the future."
